Comments: My Grandfather, Thomas Arthur Irvin served in the 76th in Battery C, 364th field artillery unit. He made a journal of his experience in WW2 and I currently have it at my home in Overland Park, Ks. It contains countries and battles, an Onaway division newsletter and several other inferences to the division.
He served in 5 countries which include: England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. I also have a magazine of the 76th, volume 1 NO. 18 from 15 June, 1945. The journal is amazing as it has currency from 5 countries, maps and many photographs...but my favorite entries are the telegrams and letters between he and my Grandmother Winifred Irvin, one of which documents my Gramps talking about his new baby girl born(my mother) on December 17, 1944, the start of the battle of the Bulge.
I also have his honorable discharge letter from the US Army in 1945.
Gramps grew up in rural Tennessee and joined the Civilian Military Training Camps in 1938 at the age of 17. He survived a German U boat attack in the North Atlantic aboard the USS Dorchester on February 2nd, 1943 en route to England. They went down in the North Atlantic near Greenland. Of the 902 men aboard the ship, 672 lost their lives.
He died on August 3rd, 1996. He was my hero and I loved him very much. To this day he is the greatest man I have ever met. I am so proud to have known such a kind, gentle and great man and honored to be a part of his family.

Comments: I was wondering if anyone had the lyrics to the 76th Division marching song. I had the song transcribed from the Library of Congress for our Change of Command ceremony in August, but can't quite make out all the words to transcribe them myself. I will share the song with anyone that has the written lyrics. Thanks

Comments: My maternal grandfather, William Charles Ross, was a Private in the Vermont 304th Infantry, 76th Division. This information on his military gravestone.
William was born August 14, 1891 in Nashua, NH; and died October 20, 1936 in Springfield, VT. He resided in Perkinsville, and is buried in the Plain Cemetery, Perkinsville, Town of Weathersfield, Windsor County, Vermont.
I am wondering if he, or this company, went overseas in WWI.
